Comity
~ divined ~ (scroll 1 of 3 ~
view 2 & 3)
In the early 18th Century records of the
Waterside Third Parish of Newbury in the Massachusetts
Bay Colony, the word committee was commonly spelled
Comity. This word,
with its provincial spelling, also defines the basic tenet
of the Waterside people's
1763 petition (to
set off the parish as the separate town of town of Newburyport
~ a deed officially ratified under the colonial governor's
seal on February 4, 1764)
~ seeking to dispel the "disquietude" & partisanship
that would undermine the Waterside people's realization of
their defined (and divined) goals & objectives.
(Con)notation of the word "hope" insufficient
~ the now obsolete word "esperance"
best defines the Waterside people's aspirations and expectations
~ so was revived when "corresponding" in great expection
of Newburyport's celebrations/cerebrations
during "The Year
of Inauguration.")
